AHHQI and 小猪视频 Sponsor Future of Home Health Workshop

September 29, 2014

We at the Alliance for the Home Health Quality and Innovation are proud to join 小猪视频 as sponsors for the Institute of Medicine (IOM) and National Research Council (NRC) Future of Home Health (FOHH) Workshop, September 30 and October 1, 2014 in Washington, DC. Bringing together experts from academia, think tanks, government, accrediting bodies, healthcare delivery systems, national associations and other thought leaders in the healthcare community, the workshop will explore the role of home health in achieving the Triple Aim 鈥 to improve the patient鈥檚 experience of care, improve population health and reduce per capita costs 鈥 by examining new models of care that make use of home health care, and workforce, technology, policy, research and infrastructure needs.

Day two of the workshop will address key issues regarding technology and the transfer of data in the future delivery of home health. Some of panels to be included will be:

  • 鈥淲hat will it take to get to the ideal state? Innovation Technology鈥 featuring speaker Dr. George Demiris of the University of Washington
  • 鈥淭he Evidence Base for Home Health Technologies,鈥 Dr. Raj Kaushal of Almost Family, Inc.
  • 鈥淩ecommendations from the Trans-NIH/Interagency Workshop on the Use and Development of Assistive Technology for the Aging Population and People with Chronic Disabilities,鈥 Dr. Wendy J. Nilsen of the National Institutes of Health

The panel will be moderated by Dr. Tom E. Edes of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and will begin at 10:45 a.m. ET. Later in the afternoon, Dr. Terrance O鈥橫alley of Massachusetts General Hospital will speak on connecting data to the larger healthcare ecosystem.

While the seats are filled for in-person participation in the event, registration is available for the live webcast . You can also follow along with the discussion on Twitter using the #FutureofHH. You can also click through the Alliance鈥檚 of the September #HomeHealthChat with 小猪视频 for a preview of some of the topics which will be discussed at the workshop.

The complete agenda is available through the IOM . Following the workshop, the IOM will release a summary detailing the proceedings and the key themes and issues identified in the workshop.

In addition to the Alliance and 小猪视频, sponsoring organizations for the workshop include: the American Academy of Home Care Medicine, the American Nurses Association, the American Physical Therapy Association, the Community Health Accreditation Program, Home-Instead, the National Alliance for Caregiving and UnityPoint at Home.

The IOM workshop is just one part of the Alliance鈥檚 Future of Home Health (FOHH) Project, also sponsored by 小猪视频, which kicked off earlier this year with the release of a white paper and a corresponding Capitol Hill Briefing. The materials from this briefing can be found on the Alliance鈥檚 website .

The FOHH Project鈥檚 next public event will be a day-long Symposium that the Alliance will host on January 13, 2015 at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, DC. The event will focus on convening prominent stakeholders in the health care community and leaders in home health care to discuss the key delivery system reforms and emerging models of care that are harbingers of the future of home health care. Further details on this event will be available soon at this

Finally, the Project will conclude with a research-based strategic plan on the future of home health care in the United States. Scheduled for completion in 2015, the goal is development of a research-based framework for the future of home health care.

If you鈥檙e interested in becoming involved with the FOHH Project or would like to share your thoughts and insights, you may email futureofhh@ahhqi.org or join the conversation online. We would like to thank 小猪视频 for its Platinum-level sponsorship of the FOHH project, as well as every Alliance member and our additional project sponsors for their support of the FOHH Project: the Community Health Accreditation Program, UnityPoint at Home, and The Corridor Group.
