鈥淭here鈥檚 a shift in healthcare to population health and value-based care,鈥 said Armine Khudanyan, CEO and co-founder of QAPIplus, during an education session at the 2024 小猪视频, Growth, Innovation and Leadership Experience (小猪视频). 鈥淲ith this shift, the use of data has become fundamental to the success of any organization.鈥
In this session, Khudanyan and Jessica McGlory, founder and CEO of Guaranteed, discussed current and future state analytics that organizations should use to improve outcomes, deepen relationships and grow revenue.
Use of Data for Strategic Planning
鈥淯sing data translates into better care, improved outcomes and increased patient satisfaction,鈥 said Khudanyan.
To improve quality, safety and efficiency in healthcare, all outcomes should be properly documented and reviewed.
鈥淚f we use data properly and we have good data collection measures and we have good tools, we can really prevent a lot of errors, a lot of issues that can occur in our industry,鈥 said Khudanyan.
Keep Data Top of Mind
Risk analysis takes place during data collection. Organizations should engage data users, improve data quality and accuracy, identify information needs, communicate results and leverage technology.
Khudanyan stressed the importance of quality and accuracy in data collection. She explained that healthcare providers need appropriate tools to compile and analyze data effectively and communicate the results.
“Quality and accuracy of data that’s collected is important,鈥 explained Khudanyan. 鈥淚t’s very important not only to capture data but to know how to use it, how to disseminate this information.”
Focus on Measures That Have the Biggest Impact
The use of data has become fundamental to the success of healthcare organizations.
鈥淭he safer the care, the more satisfied [the] clients [are] and the better [the] outcome,鈥 said Khudanyan.
Focus on measures that increase patient safety and satisfaction, improve performance and reduce risks. Align with payers and referral sources using star ratings, hospitalizations, incident management, the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) and the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS).
Achieving Meaningful Gains From MIPS
To achieve meaningful gains from MIPS, it is important to have data-driven, actionable performance improvement activities. Khudanyan explained the importance of engaging patients and families, so they are aligned with clinical goals and outcomes. Organizations should also focus staff development on technology and data and incorporate patient feedback into their MIPS strategy.
AI Analytics at the End of Life
鈥淲e鈥檙e already interacting with AI everywhere and in healthcare and specifically with palliative and hospice,鈥 said McGlory.
AI can help organizations analyze data, make predictions and improve patient care and outcomes.
Predictive Analytics Strategies
McGlory explained that organizations should know the outcome they are trying to achieve with patients, be knowledgeable about their data, understand how predictive analytics will improve patient outcomes and reflect on the accuracy of their predictions.
鈥淥ver the next 10 years, we are going to be able to achieve the outcome that I know every single person in this room wants, which is that every person that faces [the] end of life is able to have an incredible end-of-life healthcare experience,鈥 explained McGlory.
鈥淚鈥檓 really excited to see this industry be at the forefront when it comes to AI analytics and just generally transforming healthcare,鈥 said McGlory.
